American Legion Post 327 Elected Officers for 2026 – 2027
Commander: Thomas Seberger
Duties: It shall be the duty of the Post commander to preside at all meetings of the Post and to have general supervision over the business and affairs of the Post, and such officer shall be the chief executive officer of the Post. The Commander shall approve all orders directing the disbursement of funds and shall make an annual report covering the business of the Post for the year, and recommendations for the ensuing year, which shall be read at the annual meeting and a copy thereof immediately forwarded to the Department adjutant. The Commander shall perform such other duties as directed by the Post.
1st Vice Commander: Chuck Shoemaker
Duties: The vice-commander shall assume and discharge the duties of the office of commander in the absence or disability of, or when called upon by the Post commander. Membership is the primary assignment of a first vice commander. The vice commander should be familiar with the ceremonial protocol for regular meetings.
2nd Vice Commander: Ron Toomay
Duties: The 2nd Vice-Commander shall assume and discharge the duties of the office of Vice-Commander in the absence or disability of the Vice-Commander, or when called upon by the Post commander. The second vice commander is responsible for building an atmosphere in which Legionnaires have fun while accomplishing the mission of their American Legion post. The second vice helps run operations and attract members to the post with activities designed to engage members.
The second vice commander’s duties include contacting other veterans and civic groups to verify each patriotic holiday and observance receives the respect it deserves. The second vice commander should be looking for ways to involve members in post activities, operations and programs to assist the first vice commander by providing improved member retention.
Adjutant: Scott Williams
Duties: The adjutant is the personnel officer, personal point of contact for individual members, and primary administrative officer of the post. Post activities revolve around the adjutant. The adjutant shall have charge of maintaining and keep a full and correct record of all proceedings of all meetings, keep such records as the Department and National Organizations may require, render reports of membership annually or when called upon at a meeting, and under direction of the commander handle all correspondence of the Post. The adjutant assists the work of the other officers and committees, and publish official orders, announcements and communication with post members. All post records should be maintained and accessible by the adjutant, in a comprehensive filing system.
Finance Officer: Billy Hodge
Duties: The finance officer of the Post shall have charge of all finances and see that they are safely deposited in some local bank or banks and shall report once a month to the Executive Committee the condition of the finances of the Post, with such recommendations as may deem expedient or necessary for raising funds with which to carry on the activities of the Post. The Finance Officer shall sign all checks disbursing the monies of the Post and shall furnish such surety bonds in such sum as shall be fixed by the Post Executive Committee.
Sergeant at Arms: Jimmie Gowin & Doug Walker
Duties: The Sergeant-At-Arms is the sentinel or tiler (the outer guard of this post) and will especially guard against the loss of The American Legion’s greatest possessions – our deep and abiding spirit of comradeship. You will learn the identity and introduce to the Commander all visiting comrades and guests of the Post. Into your hands is given the charge of the stand of colors which you will properly display at all Post meetings and on ceremonial occasions. The Sergeant-At-Arms arranges the meeting hall and assists the post commander and adjutant in preliminary arrangements for meetings, including leading the color detail during presentation and retirement ceremonies.
Executive Committee Members: Jeff Sickels & Adrian Arnold
Duties: The Government and management of Post 327 are entrusted to the Executive Committee. The Post Executive Committee shall meet at the call of the Commander as often as said Commander may deem necessary. The Post Executive Committee is further charged with assisting in hiring employees, authorizing and approving all expenditures, hearing reports of post committee chairpersons, and providing business oversight over post affairs. Delegation of these functions to the house/executive committee is in no way intended to usurp the powers of the membership through regular post meetings. Rather, this allows the routine business affairs of the post to be handled outside of post meetings.
Appointed Officers and Post Committees
Service Officer: Adrian Arnold
Duties: The service officer of the Post is responsible for bringing awareness to all veterans and their dependents the rights and benefits granted them by law. He provides assistance, free of charge, to veterans and their families with applications for VA disability benefits, provide information, referrals and resources on education, employment and business, death benefits and other important topics.
Post Judge Advocate: VACANT
Duties: shall be the legal advisor of the Post Officers and the Executive Committee and shall perform other duties as the functions of his office may require.
Post Historian: VACANT
Duties: Shall be charged with the individual records and incidents of the post and post members and shall perform such other duties as may properly pertain to the office as may be determined by the post or the Executive Committee.
Post Chaplain: VACANT
Duties: Shall be charged with the spiritual welfare of the post comrades and will offer divine but non-sectarian service in the event of dedications, funerals, public functions, etc., adhere to such ceremonial rituals as are recommended by the national or department headquarters from time to time.
Publicity, Public Relations, & Social Media Officer: Thomas Seberger
Duties: Shall be charged with the promotion of local publicity of Post programs and activities. Elevates awareness in the veteran community and the community advocating for veterans. The American Legion is defined in the public eye by the values it demonstrates. The communication is accomplished by advertising post activities via multiple methods online. By providing awareness to the post membership and the community on activities occurring within the post. By adverting opportunities for post membership to demonstrate the values of the American Legion through volunteering for the post and the community.
House Committee Members: Ron Toomay, Jimmie Gowin & Scott Williams
Duties: The Government and management of Post 327 are entrusted to the House Committee. The Post House Committee supervises the operation of the post’s physical facilities, such as a clubroom, American Legion center, meeting room, etc. Responsibilities include administration, equipment, and the hiring and direction of employees (as authorized by the post executive committee), and general rules applicable to the conduct of members while on the post’s premises.
Membership Committee Members: Vacant
Duties: shall have charge of all matters pertaining to the membership of the Post, including the procuring of new members, reinstatements, and eligibility of members. All questions of eligibility and or continuity of membership not immediately discernible from available records shall be referred to the Executive Committee for disposition. It shall be the duty of the Membership Committee to sponsor and advocate and exploit every means of obtaining new members.
Publicity and Public Relations Committee: Vacant
Duties: Shall be charged with the promotion of local publicity of Post programs and activities.
Boys State Liaison: Chuck Shoemaker
Duties: Shall promote the Boys State program in which participants learn about leadership by becoming a mock, or virtual, government and provide a relevant interactive, problem-solving experience in leadership and teamwork that develops self-identity, promotes mutual respect, and instills civic responsibility. The Liaison will support the program by actively reaching out to local schools to recruit students to participate and attend Boys State.
